The property was originally two farmhouses and a barn. The two farmhouses have been made into one 4-bedroom house, while the barn was converted approximately 12 years ago into a 5-bedroom house. Although the buildings are semi-detached, they are completely separate with their own entrances, and each has its own lounge, dining room and kitchen.

Situated in the north west of France, within the Parc Naturel Regional de Normandie-Maine, the property is perched on a hillside, commanding stunning panoramic views of the lush Normandy countryside, 2 miles from the medieval town of Domfront, in the department of the Orne.

Domfront was once the location of Eleanor of Aquitaine’s Court, and the ruins of her castle are one of the town’s tourist attractions, along with streets of medieval houses. The town has been officially designated as one of only two in the whole of Normandy to represent the region’s medieval heritage. It already hosts a medieval festival every two years, and major investments in medieval tourism facilities are currently being planned for the town. Domfront also has a range of restaurants and bars, two of the major supermarket chains, numerous smaller shops including bakeries, butchers, opticians and florists, DIY stores and garden centre, dentist, medical centre, hospital, banks and post office, as well as primary and secondary schools.

The property is part of the commune of Lonlay l’Abbaye (4 miles away) which has a restaurant, pub, bakery, butcher, mini supermarket, hairdresser, pharmacy, doctor, bank, post office, tennis courts and children’s playground as well as the historic abbey and ancient cider press hall. It is home to the Biscuiterie de l’Abbaye whose products are sold nationally and internationally.

Within a 30 mile radius of the property are market towns offering a range of local produce; historic sites from ancient castles and churches to WWII battle sites; lakes to explore and picnic around, and leisure facilities for walking, rock climbing, cycling, kayaking, golf, tennis, fishing, bowling, paint-balling, swimming or go-karting. Slightly further afield are the D-Day landing beaches, the UNESCO heritage site of Mont Saint Michel, and centres devoted to the work of Christian Dior, Leonardo da Vinci and Claude Monet.

Transport links include direct rail line to Paris from Flers; TGV line station at Laval; airports at Dinard, Rennes and Caen have budget airlines flights from UK and Ireland; ferry ports at Caen, Cherbourg, Le Havre and St Malo serve the UK and Ireland.

Equestrian
Normandy is the equine capital of France and is home to two national studs which offer tours and regular competitions. There are bridle paths and off-road riding opportunities close to the property, including the Voie Verte running from Paris to Mont Saint Michel. Within 15 miles of the property are numerous equestrian centres offering lessons and out-riding in traditional, natural horsemanship and Western style; competitions in TREC, cross country and show jumping are held around the region.

Equestrian feed suppliers are in Domfront with specialist English feed and bedding supplier, complete with tack shop, 15 miles away. Hay and straw is delivered to the property, and an English-speaking farrier comes to the property to shoe the horses. There are English-speaking vets in both Domfront and Lonlay l’Abbaye.
